Medication Disposal and Water Quality
- Groundwater Quality
The Calumet County Community Development Educator works in partnership with the county Land and Water Conservation Department to provide educational programs and assistance on groundwater resources. Results of ongoing groundwater testing programs conducted since 2002 in Calumet County indicate many wells in the county have high nitrate and/or bacteria levels. For specific testing information, residents should visit the County Land and Water Conservation Department website or call them at 920-849-1444.
UW-Extension has developed a vast array of water resources and programs. They can be found at the UWEX Water Resources Website

- Safe Medication Disposal
Pharmaceuticals and related compounds have been widely found in wastewater effluent and in surface waters and, in limited cases, groundwater. Researchers are now investigating how some pharmaceuticals and personal care products may harm aquatic life. The environmental impacts are as varied as the products involved. In addition to the environmental impacts, excess pharmaceuticals directly affect the health and safety of our families and communities. Pharmaceuticals are involved in accidental poisonings, medication errors, drug abuse and drug abuse-related crime.
The Department of Natural Resources maintains a website that provides additional information and resources on safe medication disposal. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/aw/wm/pharm/pharm.htm
