Many of you are on the short pipe crops list as well. Note the “creeping up” of futures prices on the CME. That is good news but the word creeping is a good one when comparing to milk production input costs. Those cost have “run” up more than crept up. Starting to hear of some issues with Brazilian bean crop outlooks due to dry weather in Brazil. What dry weather??? How will that impact protein and protein supplement costs? The best counter to high production costs for dairy farmers for the short term is working to manage our 1st cutting alfalfa quality.
